My Story

Welcome to The Online Mentor.

Not sure how you ended up on my site but I guess like me you are fed-up with what you are doing and have started searching for another way?

That’s exactly what happened to me!

Are you getting a slight pay rise every year but somehow you are still worse off! Fuel prices going up, food bills going up… I am sure you know the story.

If you think you can keep doing the same thing and things will change, then you are wrong! In fact I think that’s the first sign of madness, repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. J

Can I help you?

Well it depends what you want? If you want to sit on you arse and expect things to happen then the answer is NO!  Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh but you if you are not willing commit to changing your future then there is no point in looking through this site, and there is certainly no point in contacting me.

However, if you want to make an effort and are willing to learn then the short answer is YES!

I am an IMU Certified Professional and can help you achieve your online goals.

The team I am part of all have one thing in common, we all work with the same central home business. You can find out more about that here www.makemoneyzone.co.uk

If you have any questions or chat want a chat then feel free to skype me: rob.purdie

Anyone can do this, as you will see if you read below.

So what’s my Story?

Well, I am a pretty average guy. I grew up in a deprived area in Glasgow, Scotland.

We lived in a tenement building and  I have added a picture below.  This building has been done up since I lived there and looks a lot better now than it did. I loved growing up there and still wouldn’t change things if I could. (I will show you my current house further down the page)

It just shows you can come from whatever background and still be successful. I didn’t have a great education; it was more of a survival lesson. And Just because you don’t get great grades don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do things. You will be surprised at just how far ambition and persistence will get you.

I left home at quite a young age and moved to England. I stayed with family for a couple of months as I really did not know what I wanted to do, all I knew was I had had enough of school. So to cut a long story short, it was get a job or go home.

I got a job in a factory and I had to move out from my relative’s house as I had been there too long and I knew I was overstaying my welcome. It’s a long story but my family wanted me to go back to Scotland and they pretty much said “go home or we are kicking you out”. I know now that they were trying to scare me into going home. Being the way I am I told them I will find my own place.

I was broke and had nothing, but I refused to go home. I tried to rent a room locally, but by the time I got there the room had gone. The guy said the only thing I have got is a caravan out the back of the property, but you can use the kitchen and bathroom in the house. I had no choice I had to take it.

It was probably 8ft by 5ft and had a power cable coming from the house that tripped out every time I put the heater on.

old caravan

I lived in it for 3 months through the winter while it was snowing and it was a nightmare. I could use stronger language to describe it but I won’t.  Someone moved out of the shared house and I had first offer. Of course, I took it! It really is not fun as a teenager not being able to tell people where you live!

I had a few more shitty jobs before I found a direction. I trained and worked as a chef which would have a large influence on jobs that I have done.

I worked in hotels and I worked hard, 70-80 hour weeks, but I loved the job. Anyone who has worked in a kitchen with a large brigade will tell you the same, there’s a buzz that can’t be explained.

So I climbed the ladder and got a nicer place to live but I was still broke. All my money went on rent and bills, my friends still lived at home with their parents and they were all driving cool cars, and as they still had the comfort of never experiencing “real life” they didn’t understand why I could never go out or why I used to cycle to work. Something had to change…

I had a buddy that sold cars for a living, always had money and a nice car (obviously).  I asked him how he got the job etc… And I knew if he could do it that I could. (He wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer)

I applied for a few jobs in car showrooms as a salesman (just like my buddy) and I also went to showrooms that were not advertising and asked to speak to the general manager. I got told to clear off a few times but some of them would see me. There was a common response from all of them. “You don’t have any sales experience”. I was pretty deflated with all the knock backs but still had one more guy to see. He said exactly the same but this time I replied “if I had sales experience would you give me a job?”  He said “you seem like a nice kid, if you get some experience I will definitely consider it”

I firmly believe what I am about to tell you now was a defining moment in my life, a test of what I am made of, I think every person has moments like this in their life and the decision they make will change their life forever.

I decided to give up my job and take a sales job selling double glazing windows to gain experience in sales. This job was commission only. If I didn’t sell anything I would not get paid.  The job sucked, no wonder they gave it to me! I got sent on a week’s training program and they paid me a basic wage for that week as I was being trained by them. More importantly I was getting sales training and experience.

I managed some sales, enough to get by and pay the rent. I worked there for 3 months and then I went back to the car showroom of the guy who said he would give me a job if I had experience and I still remember clearly what happened.

I asked the receptionist if I could speak with him. After a long wait he came to the front desk. I asked him if he remembered me (he didn’t) and said I asked you for a job and you said “come back when you have experience”. He smiled and said I remember you now; you better come into my office.

I told him what I had done to gain experience and that I had risked not being able to pay my rent. He pulled a pencil sharpener out of his drawer and said “Tell me the features and the benefits of this pencil sharpener”.  I replied and he smiled and said “fair enough I will give you a chance but don’t let me down”.

In 6 months I had gone from having almost nothing and scraping by, to having a new car and being able to do what I wanted. I know some people will say selling cars in not exactly a great job but it depends what you compare it to.

I am going to move on a few years now or I will be here all day!

I used my sales experience to eventually gain a regional managers position for a large international foodservice equipment company. I got this job due to the catering background and the sales experience I had. It is a very sought after job and is well respected in the industry.

This is me doing a presentation to the CEO after finishing in the top ten worldwide champions club.

I think the moral of the story here is not to quit, and don’t let people tell you that you can’t do things. I am constantly setting myself new goals and pushing myself forward. Sometimes I go backwards a bit in the process but I never give up. That’s why I got into internet marketing; I just loved the idea of being sat at home making money even when I am sleeping. Oh and speaking of home, this is where I live now.

Just goes to show that persistence can overcome everything.

I started out a lot worse off than most, and I really understand how hard life can be. But in this day and age there are so many opportunities to change your life but people don’t see them or choose not to see them and would rather sit in front of the TV or play World of Warcraft. I have been there and I have done it, but I made a change and you can do the same!

Don’t just sit there waiting for it to happen, make it happen.

Well if you have read this far then you know quite a bit about me and thanks for taking the time to read. Now it’s your turn to tell me your story: rob@theonlinementor.com

Seriously, feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or would like a chat.

Hope to speak to you soon.

Best Wishes

Rob
